JERSEY JAUNT

My husband and I have just come back from a few days in Jersey, enjoying warm and sunny weather.  We stayed at one of the best hotels on the island - the Atlantic Hotel.  It was a wonderful experience.  The staff were warm, friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The interior is a eclectic mix of contemporary, traditional and classical with a mix of artwork.

The artwork shown below is one of my favourite pieces.  It is by Ellie Yannas who was born in Istanbul and brought up in Athens before moving to London to study art. It is called Thoughts and Afterthoughts and consists of eighteen individual paintings that are hung together to form one picture. Her work has a strong three dimensional quality and she uses raw pigments, gesso and natural materials, such as earth and sand. Inspiration for this piece came from the sacred geometry found in nature and is reflected in spiritual symbols across all cultures.  Added to this is script with the texts of poems and philosophical thought, as well as the organic shapes of leaves and shells in the hope that they generate their own language.
